Ivana Zečević

I first saw Ivana Zečević at a final rehearsal of “The House”. At the time I knew nothing about the play — not what it was about, not who was in it — only that Voja Brajović was directing. When the performance ended, Brstina and Ilić had once again convinced me of their exceptional talent, but the real discovery for me was a young actress I had never heard of: Ivana Zečević.

It was her first leading role in the theatre. She acted, sang and moved across the stage with such ease that she might have been born on the boards. Ivana Zečević was the force that drove the drama, the comedy and every character through all those bittersweet situations. That is why I made this series of portraits of her — to play some small part in her entrance through the great door of the theatre.
